WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture derives from the ancient 3000-year-old Chinese medical system. It views the body holistically and individually to others. A diagnosis is made by observing the body's signs and symptoms (S+S) . For example, a migraine condition for one client can often be diagnosed differently from another client as their body is presenting different S + S and therefore their treatment protocol will differ.

Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very fine single-use, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points on your body. This will trigger the movement of Qi (energy) to enhance a healing response within your body. This response aims to restore the body's balance both physically and emotionally.
DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?
Acupuncture is not meant to hurt, the needles used are as fine as a hair, and often new clients are surprised that they don't feel them. Some clients report a feeling of tingling or a dull aches on insertion. Acupuncture is known to be a relaxing treatment, many clients will fall asleep during their treatment - we call this the 'Acu -Nap'.

WHAT WILL MY APPOINTMENT LOOK LIKE?
Before your first appointment, you will be asked to fill out a pre-consultation form which will allow me to see an overview of what's going on holistically within your body and its systems. When you attend your first appointment you will have a consultation to explore in more dept your presenting condition(s), as well as discuss any relevant imbalances I may have identified. In addition, a pulse reading and a tongue observation will be taken. These methods will draw together your diagnosis and a treatment plan will be formulated and discussed with you.
Next, you will begin your treatment, where necessary this may include cupping therapy, moxa or gua sha therapy inaddition to your needles, however, this will be discussed with you.

Once your needles are inserted, they will be left in position for approximately 20mins - now is your time to relax and have that 'Acu-Nap' whilst the needles do the hard work.
Follow-up sessions will involve a 'catch-up' noting any changes between the treatments, followed by your physical treatment.

Appointment times - The first appointment should last approx 1hour.
Follow-up appointments are between 45-50 mins.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE TYPICALLY NEEDED?
This is always difficult to answer as every clients case is different and it often depends on how responsive you are to the treatment as some respond quicker to others. Acupuncture works best given as a course (ideally on a weekly basis) to give greater, speedier results.
As a general measure based on weekly treatments ;
Most clients usually see some improvement within 3 treatments. By 6 -8 treatments good improvements should be made and at this stage, we can hope to look at reassessing your treatment plan to less frequent and ideally maintenance visits.
